Not to be confused with Tahoe, though it’s very similar….with volcanoes. Taupo is a tourist mecca, filled with things to do like skydive, parasail, jet ski, kayak, ski. Pretty much anything you can think of on water and mountains. What I liked most was the view. Overlooking the lake you can make out 3 distinct volcanoes, Mt. Ruapehu, Mt. Tongariro, and Mt. Ngauruhoe, which posed as Mt. Doom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

We spent a day sightseeing and riding one of those Jet Boats. They take you right up next to the Huka Falls, which was cool, though I felt it was way over priced compared to the caves.

We also took advantage of a flyer we saw for a $20 hour long massage. Was perfect timing cause I was getting tired from driving and this really hit the spot.
