Yeah, it’s really touristy, I know, but how often are you a few minute drive to Hobbiton. I knew it was a once in a lifetime thing, so I had to make a stop at Bad End.

This trip turned out to be much better then I had originally thought. I figured it would be like a Celebrity Home Tour in LA or something, (not that I have ever done that), but it was much more surreal then anything.

Tucked away on this massive farm in Mata Mata, there is this beautiful landscape with rolling hills filled with tons and tons of sheep, and not much else. Then you see these small little hobbit holes popping up out of the ground, it was awesome. It really felt more like visiting a museum then a movie set, sort of like an archeological dig of an ancient civilization. It still looks like it did in the film, sort of, just all overgrown and un-kept, and they had to tear most of the larger props down for legal reasons. One of the main things I noticed though was how peaceful it felt there, you could really feel the magic of this location. And as you turned your head in 360 degrees you couldn’t see any signs of modern technology, just more and more hills. Quite a memorable afternoon.
