I was really looking forward to this part of the trip and seeing the glaciers along the west coast of the South Island. Before we made it to our hotel, we made several more random stops along the way here, one of which provided and amazing impulsive helicopter ride to the top of the glacier. I was very nervous about the flight, I hate heights
and helicopters don’t seem to be the most stable machines to fly in,
it was so tiny. The payoff was well worth it as we climbed to about
3500 ft and saw some of the prettiest views I’ve even seen in my life.
After the quick flight around Franz Josef Glacier we safely landed and
then made our way south to Fox Glacier. |
