Tongariro Crossing...
This weekend my roomates and I went on a little road trip up north to the Tongariro Crossing. It is known as the best one-day hike in all of New Zealand. It was by far the best thing I've seen yet on the North Island, better than all the other stops I made on my last trip up with Simon.
We hiked 17km up to a hieght of 1900 Meters...the view was spectacular to say the least. We walked across Mt. Tongariro and adjacent to Mt. Ngauruhoe (Mt. Doom in Lord of the Rings), and Mt. Ruapehu. At times it looked like we were walking on the surface of another planet with all of the volcanic rocks and thermal pools. Also, the tempature changes drastically several times during the 7 hour hike; it was actually a lot harder then I thought.
Here are some picks from this amazing trip.
