Back again! Sorry its been so long. Finally getting aclimated to the new area and my new studio apt. Still don't have internet either so its hard to update for now. So whats been going on, well actually a lot.
Work is still great. Our first trailer will be released on 5.26.06 attached to X-Men III. But don't exptect to see any of my work on it though, bummer. Those models were pretty much completed before I even got here. Though my recently finished character may be included into a second trailer, I'll keep ya posted on that. I just saw it today running through some animation tests, amazing.
School is over on the 19th, that's right, I'm still in school too. So on weekends I have been finishing up partial woprk to hand in for graduation. My teachers have been nice enough to understand that after work I have little time to actually put much time into those projects. I will finish them but defiantely at some point entirely, but not before May 19th.
Landis has a cool new Forum on his site that allows classmates critque works in progress and discuss some 3D. Check it out over at www.landisfields.com
I attended a ZBrush User Group Meeting the other day at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects. It was nice to finally see that facility after seeing some many of their DVDs. It was a pretty cool demo sponsored my Luma Pictures, they showed off their work from Underworld Evolution. And it was especially cool cause two of my co-workers modeled on that show. Speaking of Gnomon DVD's. One of those former Luma modelers, current co-worker Miguel Ortega (http://warproductions.com,) is making a new ZBrush for Feature Film DVD. Knowing his work, it will be a huge hit. Another buddy of mine, Peter Zoppi, just finished a new ZBrush Online Tutorial on modeling from texture image. That will soon be up on Zbrush Cnetral. He did that kick ass Fortress in Underworld Evolution.
Lets see, what else. Oh yeah, back to school. Thanks to Landis, I was able to make the deadline for the Academy's 2006 Spring Show. I entered my car model under Hard-Surface Modeling, and the Truck for Texturing. I don't think they judge that until the end of this month so again I'll keep ya posted on how I do. We are also ofcourse entered our short film."WORM." Hope we can will best short for that effort. Sorry I haven't been able to show many people this yet but film festivals have issues where you cannot post submissions online until you enter so we have to wait longer on that. In additon to the Spring Show, we, meaning Landis, Anna, Roger, and myself, are going to be featured in the upcoming Maya 8.0 book, a revision by Thomas Meade's original Maya 6.0 book. We are going to present a case study in it discussing how eactly 3 students can work together to finish a short film, the problems we encountered and how we resolved the problems. Not sure at all when that will be out, more on that later. We have additionally submitted the WORM to 3D World Magazine and I think we will be featured in that at some point, hopefully soon.
I hope everyone is doing well at school or wherever. SIGGRAPH may not be possible for me this year depending on my contract and how far we are in produciton. Though I am going to E3 sometime next week. Oh yeah, I just received my trophy and Tee-Shirt from the hockey team today, which, in my absense, won the Championship in a thilling 3-2 comback win in game 3 of the series. Congrats to all the Praire Dogs out there, and to Jason K. for netting the game winner.
I took photos of my place which I hope to be able to post soon but without internet at home and no USB's at work, its almost impossible. And last definately not least, I bought a new car. Actually it was about 6 weeks ago but I wanted to post this with photos but figured I'de say it now anyways. I got my dream car, the one I modeled last year, a Mazda RX-8, Silver. It rocks!
Cheers.
